This is such a valid analysis Brandon! I’m now suspecting the significant modern cultural divide is between urban and rural. Urban decay has a long, historical precedence and I believe savvy observers are sensitive to this trend.
Athenians believed the optimal city state was comprised of <10,000 citizens, a small town by modern standards. Modern urban and suburban dwellers are so utterly dependent upon goods and services provided by the state which actually requires “good governance” were they to be legitimately functional. Considering the modern urban plight is reduced to a Truman Show, open-air prison, Matrix existence it’s no wonder they’re inclined to hysterical behaviors
