@Kiril and Brandon are at ETH Denver connecting with the crypto community. Brandon caught this opportunity to film the presenters of the day summarizing their takeaways. I think this captures some of the enthusiasm and earnest desire to help humanity.
This particular group is focused on regenerative land projects, community building, and collective decision making. I’ll share more about some of the projects we’ve encountered once I get time to compile my notes.
These are some of the projects that I came across that others might be interested in, or which might help seed further conversations.
- Will Ruddick lives in Kenya
- the local people have a practice of putting goods and services into a community offering
- Will created a system to track the exchanges, so people can find a balance and avoid abuse or misunderstandings
- Is this something we could apply here?

There was a Ute woman (Angelique?) who shared these projects.
- seems pretty abstract
- basically they’re building a framework and set of tools for learning, sharing information, designing holistic solutions
- but it seems like it needs more concrete examples
- also really abstract, academic
- ecosystem of solutions for community governance
- many of the projects are early stage, not ready to be employed
- I agree with the overall principles they are operating on
How are these projects relevant for The County Fence? Ultimately the pattern which motivated me to create The Fence is rules being implemented without checking in with the people who will be effected. This is really a breakdown in governance, where the people making decisions don’t have full visibility into the consequences.
If we want to do better, than its useful to consider the experiments with other modes of decision making.
In the technology space there is a “decentralized” movement of people who care about things like privacy and personal autonomy. So I find it interesting to check in and see what’s going on here. But often times people who are working from an academic or purely software mindset get pretty disconnected from what real people on the ground need to be effective and happy in their day to day lives.
Out of these projects, I know that Will’s is being put to real practical use, as well as the ideas in the book “Greenpilled”. I mention the other projects as well because even if they are earlier stage or more abstract, there may be those who take inspiration from them.
Thanks for reading, and I hope something you found here left you with a new sense of possibility.
Best wishes,
Brandon
