Feedback on Print Copy of The Fence

Here’s a prototype for a print copy.

  1. If you saw this in a coffee shop what would your first impressions be?
  2. What jumps out at you as actions you can take with this?
  3. What feels missing or confusing?
  4. What would be your feedback as a business owner?
  5. What would be your feedback as a community organizer?

My intention is to keep the format as simple as possible - single sheet, black and white, 8.5"x11" front and back. Just the headlines, and the QR codes will link to the specific areas on the site. This will make it cheap and easy to produce.

The print copy will be automatically generated from the trending topics. It will be available for anyone to print from the site. This will allow us to crowd source publishing and distribution.

I will incentivize distributors by paying them a portion of ad revenue. They will be able to “claim” a location by consistently posting there, and as long as they continue they will receive credit, even if someone else posts there. This is to reduce incentives for nasty behavior like tearing down someone else’s flyer to put up your own.

This is the growth strategy that will allow The County Fence to spread to the entire county. This is what will make the difference in cases like the Land Use Code, where it took us so much time and effort to connect to the rest of the county that the movement lost steam. If we can have 1 publication that gives everyone the headlines and is super easy to spread, then we solve the distribution problem for all of our action groups.
