An interview between Chris Hedges (former foreign war correspondent, former writer for New York Times) and Ralph Nader (introduced regulations for seat belts in cars and other consumer protection laws). Ralph relates the history of how he built a movement in the 80βs and 90βs to hold corporations accountable. He allied with the media companies of the time and helped them to create great stories that were relevant for the people they served, and at the same time operate for public good. Ralph then relates how corporate interests responded to this by putting advertising pressure on the media companies, and by using their money and influence to sway elections and lobby to push back against any form of regulation.
I find Ralph to be a great inspiration, including his books such as βUnstoppable: The Emerging Left-Right Alliance to Dismantle The Corporate Stateβ and βBreaking Through Power: Itβs easier than we thinkβ.
This is a conversation that pierces through political affiliation and asks the question βHow can we get a government that works more for the people, regardless of who is in power?β
