Trump Policies Unlikely to Bring Back Economy

This is a sober look at the motivations behind major power centers in the world right now. One of the primary points made is that it is dangerous and delusional to assume that we are still in a 1950’s era struggle between nation states. The reality is that financialization, tech, and the military industrial complex are the main players in the USA. Their interests do not often coincide with the needs of the domestic population, and they don’t care about reindustrialization. In the absence of real, practical reindustrialization, tariffs will do exactly what should be obvious - increase the price of goods to the American consumer, because we rely almost exclusively on imports. Additionally, swinging our power around in this way will further encourage other nations to dedolarize and embrace BRICS and other forms of exchange that don’t undermine their national sovereignty.

If true, what does this mean for us here in Delta County?

  • no one is coming to save you. Voting for a different president will not create significantly better outcomes for starting a family, or for the success of your children
  • dedolarization is happening. High certainty within the next 10 years. When it happens it will be like an avalanche, leaving Americans with greatly diminished buying power
  • anything that we can do now to increase resiliency, self reliance, connection and trust at the local level will greatly benefit us in the coming times
  • we need to be looking at imports/exports, particularly fossil fuels and computers and other products that would be difficult to build here. We need to offer valuable exports in exchange for this energy/technology, or we need to find local alternatives for satisfying these needs that don’t rely upon global supply chains

My perspective is not one of despair, it’s one of possibility. We have amazing resources and talent in Delta County, and if we were to organize and develop along these principles, I believe we have an opportunity to be a pillar of stability to our neighbors, and to serve as a blueprint for economic development that can work in other places as well.

I invite and encourage discussion along these lines. What are the resources and talents that are sitting idle in Delta County? What do you see as possible, if we were to come together and assist each other in developing?

We live in a very corrupt world, I do believe the federal reserve will end eventually, they can’t keep this up much longer.
Hopefully Trump can get some good things done first. Praying!

I agree with everything you said here Gena - these are all ways to move towards greater self reliance. And we can help each other do this. The Freedom Cells movement for instance suggests that groups of 8 people are optimal for supporting mutual development. High levels of trust can be built in small groups, and if they keep meeting over time and show up consistently for one another that builds bonds that can last a lifetime. The County Fence can help us organize private groups like this.

The County Fence also has a section for “Knowledge” and I am encouraging people to post particularly anything that pertains to self reliance and autonomy. In this way we can begin to build a “recipe book” for success.

This is such a valid analysis Brandon! I’m now suspecting the significant modern cultural divide is between urban and rural. Urban decay has a long, historical precedence and I believe savvy observers are sensitive to this trend.

Athenians believed the optimal city state was comprised of <10,000 citizens, a small town by modern standards. Modern urban and suburban dwellers are so utterly dependent upon goods and services provided by the state which actually requires “good governance” were they to be legitimately functional. Considering the modern urban plight is reduced to a Truman Show, open-air prison, Matrix existence it’s no wonder they’re inclined to hysterical behaviors :face_with_monocle: ?!
