Idea Lab

Inviting community organizers to meet at the Paonia public library on Thursdays from 10 AM - 12 PM. Meet other organizers and share your ideas, support and encouragement!

This time will be structured as an “Idea Lab”. The first 15 minutes I will write down topics, questions, areas that people are interested in exploring. Those present will vote on what we want to spend time and attention on. If we have more than 6 people, we will break up into smaller focus groups each devoted to one topic.

I invite group leaders to consider the question “How do we increase connection and awareness within Delta County?” and I welcome your ideas and feedback. Also please bring up the priorities and concerns of your group. I will do my best to understand your needs and adapt The County Fence to better serve you.

We look forward to seeing you here! Post in the comments below if you have any questions.

This Thursday’s Idea Lab is canceled, as I have some other matters to attend to. Will resume next week.

May 8 we will have Idea Lab from 6-8 PM instead of in the morning. Hoping more folks can make this one.

This is from our Idea Lab last Thursday. These are our answers to the question “What is possible in Delta County?”

Cultural

  • Mutualism, reciprocity, respect
  • develop methods to communicate in such a way that folks see value in working together
  • collaboration
  • overcoming polarities
  • being able to articulate other people’s perspectives
  • raising awareness of our collective ability to develop a different paradigm of culture & relationship
  • cultural/ethnic desegregation

Abundance

  • micro financing
  • create small projects that affect people at a level of…
  • entrepreneurial mentorship
  • identifying opportunities for new business ventures
  • finding the balance between self-reliance and tourism economy
  • getting the wisdom of the valley out to a broader audience
  • food and energy independence/interdependence
  • abundance
  • water is life
  • cacao event at the Paradise?

Mental Health

  • sane use of technology
  • focus on what is within our power

Basic Needs

  • transit connectivity
  • homeless solutions

After this we shared what we’re personally working on in the next 60-90 days and got perspectives and feedback from each other.

We’ll revisit and expand on these topics as we come back to future Idea Labs.

Thanks to Chrys, Antonio, and Daniel for coming and sharing what’s important to you!

We had a fruitful Idea Lab on May 1 at the library. We focused on creating a Visitor’s Portal that would feature local businesses and experiences for visitors to the NFV. We began a list of possible requirements that this portal would need and how to give the user a feeling of personalization to his/her desires.

We are excited to see this project evolve, with the goal of bringing resilience and prosperity to the NFV.

Howdy! I’d like to invite you to an Idea Lab this Thursday at the Paonia Library from 6PM - 8PM. I propose we talk about the summer tourist season and what we can do to maximize the incomes of local businesses and residents. Specifically, I’d like to explore creating a personalized information portal for travelers using The County Fence. Would love to have you come and share your ideas!

Thanks to @Chrys @trylliam @DanielZ @scarecrowkelly for brainstorming with me!

Here’s a primer for the conversation we had about how to bring more revenue to locals here during the tourist season this summer:

Summer Tourism Overview.pdf (69.8 KB)

I’ll post photos of our work tomorrow when the light is better.

We had a productive Idea Lab last night. We developed bredth and depth around the Visitor Portal. Here’s my mock-up of the UI.

I’m going to space these out more. Maybe once a month? I think doing it in the evening was a good idea, to be more available to folks who work or are otherwise occupied during the day. I also need to figure out how to get the message out to the people who need to hear it. In particular:

  • business owners
  • community organizers
  • artists & musicians

Stand by, I’ll chat with some people and post further when I have a date.
