Getting Started - The County Fence

Welcome!

Hey! Welcome to The County Fence. This is a free speech platform for Delta County. It’s free to join, and supported by voluntary monthly subscriptions and ad revenue.

Here is some of what you can do! If I missed anything, or you have questions, please comment below!

This is the “getting started” page - you can come back here any time by going to the home page at countyfence.org, and clicking “Getting Started” in the banner at the top.

What you can do on The Fence

Read The Fence

Find out what’s going on in Delta County! This is an action oriented publication. Our focus is on issues that impact us, and on which we have a say in the outcomes.

Print and Distribute The Fence

Be a front runner in spreading the voice of the people! Anyone can print The County Fence and hand it to friends, customers, or put it in a local coffee shop. The most recent Stories, Events, etc. will automatically come to the top, so you can promote your own content if it was created recently. In the future we would like to reward our distributors by sharing ad revenue, as well as allow them to customize what articles are featured.

Sign Up & Contribute!

Everything posted on The Fence is a conversation that you can join. This is a great place to find allies and ask “What is possible in Delta County?”

Publish as An Author

Sign up, then message @bitmage and tell me what you’d like to publish about. As long as it’s not harmful to our mission - prosperity and resilience for Delta County - I’d be happy to set you up with a dedicated tag that only you can publish to. This lets people search/filter for your work and identifies it as coming from you. Come to Idea Lab for support and encouragement and to find out what is happening within the community.

Community Action Groups - Start the Conversation

If you are seeking policies that benefit our community or organizing volunteer days or donation drives, there are many ways you can use The Fence. First, sign up, then:

  1. Tell people about your successes by posting in Stories.
  2. Invite people to your Events and collect RSVPs.
  3. Propose new projects or policy direction in Action.
  4. Keep us posted on your progress by commenting.
  5. Contact @bitmason if you would like a private group where you can organize and chat internally.

We really hope that policy discussion and how we manage shared community resources will be a major focus of the Action section. Great questions to ask are: How are you affected by X? What’s a policy that would incorporate all of the needs of the people? What are other ways that we could solve the problem through community participation?

If you have ideas about how The County Fence could serve you better, please post in Action - Improve The Fence or come to one of our Idea Labs.

Churches and Clubs - Organize and Attract New Members

Same as above, Sign Up and contact @bitmason to claim your tag to publish under, or to get your private group set up.

We are inviting churches to be a pillar of our community, we think that it’s very important that you have a presence and voice within the culture here, just as you do within our society at large.

We would love to see actions that can improve our community like:

  • Help the city or county with infrastructure improvement
  • Trash pickup
  • Help the poor with supplies, information, services
  • Projects for economic development
  • Education for young people
  • Continuing education for adults, particularly in matters of self-reliance and autonomy

Please consider coming to an Idea Lab to discuss how we can better coordinate!

Businesses & Non-Profits - Advertise

Advertise in The Fence! We’re still working on an early prototype of our advertising services, but please get in touch if this is something you are interested in. Here is how advertising will work:

  • Anyone is free to post their offerings or business listings in the Exchange section, free of charge.
  • Online only ads will be the basic paid tier of ads.
  • Presence in the print copy will be the premium paid tier.

All paid ads will come with statistics and monitoring so you can see what locations in the county you are getting the most traffic from. For example, maybe the coffee shop downtown is where you get most of your traffic. You will also have the capacity to direct the physical locations where your ads are most likely to appear. This gives you great control of your exposure while preserving people’s privacy.

Pricing will be based on:

  • minimum guaranteed traffic (impressions)
  • verified distribution of print ads in a place where they are being scanned

Pricing model is still under discussion. Feel free to weigh in here if you want to share feedback or be added to the waiting list for advertising.

Event Venues - Spread the word!

Post your event schedule. Post updates and announcements.

Tradesmen, Freelancers, Job Seekers - Seek Opportunities

Post your skills and offerings in Exchange. Browse Exchange for opportunities from local employers.

Employers

Post your full time, part time, contract, or volunteer positions in Exchange. Boost them with ads if you want extra exposure.
